Institute of Human Virology in Baltimore will hold a felicitation ceremony for Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Health Minister K K Shylaja on July 6 in recognition of the leadership provided by the duo on preventing Nipah virus.
The honour is for the government’s effective initiatives and prevention measures taken during the spread of Nipah virus that claimed 17 lives in the state in May this year.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan left for the US, on a 13-day tour to attend various programmes along with the reception.
He is the first elected people’s representative to attend a function organized by the Baltimore institute.
The CM would attend, among others, a meeting organized in Philadelphia by the Federation of Kerala Associations in North America.The Chief Minister would return to Kerala on July 18.
The Kerala government has declared Kerala as Nipah-free, since no fresh cases were reported after June 1.
