In another blow to the Narendra Modi government, a US-based media ‘Foreign Policy’ on Thursday said that US officials did not find F-16 jet ‘missing’ in Pakistan despite the claims of the Indian government that they shot down one.
“Two senior U.S. defense officials with direct knowledge of the situation told Foreign Policy that U.S. personnel recently counted Islamabad’s F-16s and found none missing,” the report says.
According to Indian Air Force, Wing Commander Abhinandan Wardhaman shot down an F-16 owned by Pakistan using MiG-21 Bison amidst the standoff between the two nuclear forces. External Affairs Ministry had claimed that there are eyewitness accounts as well as electronic evidence for the military action.
The news comes ahead of Lok Sabha elections in which Modi and BJP are using the ‘national security’ and ‘actions against Pakistan’ as major issues.
