Fugitive businessman Nirav Modi is arrested by the UK police in London on Wednesday. He is a wanted in India due to loan fraud involving the public sector bank Punjab National Bank.
He will be produced at Westminster court soon.
Modi was spotted in London twice by the media persons but refused to comment on the questions.
A UK court had issued an arrest warrant against the 48-year-old billionaire following the Enforcement Directorate’s request for his extradition.
The case will follow a similar procedure as that of liquor baron Vijay Mallya whose extradition was approved recently and is now pending with UK’s Home Office.
Modi and Mehul Choksi are the prime accused in the Rs 13,000-crore Punjab National Bank scam.
Arrests of Mallya and Modi will be a boost for BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.
