Set in motion in 2015, DigiLocker App available on Android, iOS and web allows its users to carry their documents in soft copies. The initiative was launched by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology, under the Ministry of Communications and IT.
It is a platform for issuing and verifying important government put out certificates and documents. The users can store their documents such as insurance, medical reports, PAN card, passport, marriage certificate, school certificates and other documents in the digital format. DigiLocker can be accessed on Google Play Store on Android phones.
This new App avails cloud storage space up to 1 GB freebie and cut down the use of physical documents, thus making e-documents legitimate. This measure would further boost up the Green Economy by ruling out the paperwork.
How does DigiLocker work?
- Lack of Internet access and digital education
- India still have states and administration that do not even have basic digital skills which will need the physical production of documents for a long time.
The DigiLocker team is striking out to improve user experience, according to Debabarta Nayak, Project Director and Chief tTechnical Architect of DigiLocker. Till now, over 17 million users have registered for the DigiLocker service, according to the government’s website.
