The Paradeshi Synagogue in Mattancherry celebrates its 450th anniversary. About 200 decedents of those who lived in Kochi transform this occasion into a reunion mode.
The laughter and clattering of Hebrew greetings brings life to the Jew street in Mattancherry. Most of them are visiting the place for the first time, in search of their roots and ways their ancestors crossed.
During the time of the celebration planning, the organisers expected only 100 or less people now they are coming in large numbers. The decedents are happy to learn more about their ancestors’ life, the business culture and old buildings where they can get a glimpse of Jewish touch.
Now, the Jew street is like a place ready to celebrate holy or Diwali, regaining its real whereabouts and lost glory of the Jew people who made it a notable place in the tourism map of Kerala.
In this special episode, Kochi Muziris Biennale and 450th anniversary of the Synagogue will attract more tourists towards Kochi.
