Tamil Nadu showing its caste; Dalit worker harassed by upper caste in school
Tamil Nadu again showed its caste atrocity in the state by protesting against dalit worker in school. In a shocking incident a cook from a Dalit community working for the mid-day meal scheme in a government high school near Tiruppur was harassed by upper caste people that demanded his transfer.
The 42-year-old Pappal was deputed as a cook under the mid-day meal scheme at a government high school at Thirumalai Goundampalyam village near Tiruppur. The government high school has over 70 students from Class VI to X.
Parents of the upper caste students raised objections to Pappal’s appointment and sought a change in the cook. They even threatened to not send their wards to school if Pappal continued to work in the school. Following protest from Dalit outfits, Tirupur district collector visited the school premises and has ordered a probe into the incident.
Based on a complaint from Panneerselvam of the Social Justice Party, the National Commission of Scheduled Castes has issued notice to district magistrate, chief education officer, and SP of Tiruppur seeking a report about the incident.
Further the commission has directed them to reply in three working days. L.Murugan, vice chairman of the commission is set to hold hearings on 30th July.
