Indian poet, lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar here on Tuesday said that he found the discussion about Ramzan clashing the Lok Sabha polls “totally disgusting”.
The statement from the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan recipient Akhtar came just after the controversy aroused over holding the upcoming general elections during the holy month of Ramzan.
Javed Akhtar took to his Twitter, and wrote: “I find this whole discussion about Ramzan and elections totally disgusting . This is the kind of distorted and convoluted version of secularism that to me is repulsive, revolting and intolerable . EC (Election Commission) shouldn’t consider it for a second.”

The seven-phase polls to elect the members of the 17th Lok Sabha have been announced by the Election Commission of India here on Sunday.
The upcoming polls will begin on April 11 and end on May 19. Counting of votes will be held on May 23.
Ramzan moon is likely to be sighted around May 5 and would continue up to a month.
