Declaring to strengthen the Left front in the Lok Sabha to implement an alternative policy to the neoliberalism, LDF organised Farmers’ Parliament at Pulppally, Wayanad, on Friday.
All India Kisan Sabha national president Ashok Dhawale, inaugurating the ‘Parliament’, said: “The first crime Congress committed in India is that they did not carry out land reforms. In Kerala, we can proudly say that the first government under Comrade E M S Namboothiripad carried out radical land reform.”
India became a graveyard of farmers as a result of the neoliberal economic policies began by Congress and continued by BJP, Dhawale said. 3 lakh farmers committed suicide since 1991, he noted.
To stop the farmer suicides during the UDF regime in 2001-2006, the LDF government under V S Achuthanandan, waivered the loans, he said. “A radical change in the policy is the need of the hour. It cannot be done by the Congress or BJP. The Left parties need good strength to implement it,” Dhawale said.
Journalist P Sainath also participated in the programme. LDF organised a rally in the town following the ‘Parliament’.
