Airline major SpiceJet here on Thursday found 22 live catridges from the baggage of a passenger who travelled from Bengaluru. The airline staff found the bullets at Pune airport. The passenger was to take SpiceJet flight number SG-519. He was not able to produce any valid document when questioned and has been handed over to police for further action.
“SpiceJet security staff during baggage screening found a passenger carrying 22 live cartridges at Pune airport. He was questioned by SpiceJet staff & CISF was immediately informed. The passenger was handed over to CISF & was then taken to local police station,” a spokesperson from the private airline said.
The incident took place at around 4:45 am. The flight was scheduled to take off from Pune at 5:55 am. Earlier on Thursday, a SpiceJet aircraft returned to Mumbai airport soon after taking off for Dubai following a technical glitch. The snag was rectified by airline engineers and the plane resumed the journey to Dubai after a delay of four hours. All passengers are said to be safe.
As part of the security protocol, no firearms or ammunition are allowed inside cabin baggage. But passenger are allowed to carry firearms and ammunition in their check-in baggage after declare orally or in writing to the airlines about it.
