It is really interesting to know how the human brain, the powerful invention of all times!got such enormous capabilities.
A new research suggests that developmental organisations of human brain and provides further comparative analyses between human and nonhuman primates.
The study conducted by a team of researchers from Salk Institute have developed the strategy to more easily study the early development of human neurons compared to the neurons of nonhuman primates.
The two important aspects of human brain including neuron maturation and migration. The maturation involves neuron growth as neurons increase their connections between each other for better communication.
The research team devised a new method utilising stem cell technology to take skin cells from primates and coax them, via a virus and chemical cocktails,to develop into neural progenitor cells.
the co-author Carol Marchetto said,”This is a novel strategy to study human evolution.we are happy to share these primate cell lines with the scientific community,so that the researchers from around the world can examine primate brain development without the use of the tissue samples.”
The chimpanzee neurons migrated a greater distance and covered a 76 percent greater area than the human neurons after two weeks.Human neurons are slower to develop but reached longer lengths than the chimpanzee neurons.
“We are excited about the tremendous possibilities this work opens up for the field of neuroscience and brain evolution.”said Marchetto.
