BJP and Sangh Parivar handles on Facebook since Saturday have been spamming Thrissur Collector T V Anupama’s Facebook page and indulging in a vicious hate campaign against her.
After Anupama sent notice seeking an explanation from BJP’s Thrissur Lok Sabha candidate Suresh Gopi over invoking Lord Ayyappan to seek vote, Sangh profiles are commenting “Swami Saranam” on her page. They are also adding her husband’s name on their posts, who happened to be a Christian.
RSS’s ‘intellectual wing’ head T G Mohandas asked her to resign from the Guruvayur Dewaswam Board committee immediately. Thrissur collector is by default the Administrator of the Board.
Some are saying that the BJP manifesto since the ’90s been promising building a Ram Temple at Ayodhya. “If the national leadership can do that, what is wrong in seeking a vote in the name of Lord Ayyappa?” they ask.
Suresh Gopi, in the NDA convention at Thrissur, said: “I am seeking the vote in the backdrop of Sabarimala [controversy]. If My Ayyan (Lord Ayyappa) is my sentiment, people will give a befitting reply to the tyrannical government in this [Lok Sabha] elections,” he said.
He later explained that “Ayyan” means ‘friend’. He also said that it is pathetic that he cannot pronounce the name of his favourite god.
BJP state president P S Sreedharan Pillai clarified that no one can seek a vote in the name of God.
Election Commission, from the beginning, has been maintaining that the parties can not seek a vote in the name of Lord Ayyappana and cannot use the photos of the temple and police action during the unrest in the hilltop.
Chief Election Commissioner Teeka Ram Meena backed the actions of Anupama. Gopi is expected to give explanation today.
