Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan on Wednesday reiterated his stand on Election Commission’s diktat on using Sabarimala issue for elections.
“Sabarimala is not an election issue. BJP and Congress had made it clear that it is a political opportunity for them,” he said.
Election Commission on Monday had said that parties cannot seek vote “in the name of God, or by citing religious things or misinterpreting the Supreme Court judgement.”
BJP and Congress, the parties which hope to bank on the issue in the Lok Sabha polls, had come down heavily on Election Commission, following the press conference of state Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena.
“Though nama japam was good, we asked Ezhavas not to take part in the protest. We are still kept away from some temples. Why should we support them? I know Ezhavas will end up in lock-ups if they attend nama japam. I don’t want that to happen,” he said.
Natesan also said that though BJP state general secretary K Surendran can perform well in Pathanamthitta, his chances of winning the seat are very less. He also said that it will be a miracle if Kummanam Rajasekharan wins from Thiruvananthapuram.
