Two Russian cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Sergey Prokopyev made a 6 hours spacewalk to take samples for solving the mystery of a hole in their capsule docked at International Space Station (ISS).
“The samples collected will be extremely important for completing all investigative procedures and establishing the causes of the spacecraft’s damage.” Said the Roscosmos mission head Dimitri Rogozin.
A small oxygen leaking hole has been sealed and samples were collected by the cosmonauts.
In August, Russia’s Roscosmos mission has found with a manufacturing defect causing the 2 mm-wide hole in Soyuz capsule.
Officials said the crew of three US astronauts, two Russian cosmonauts and one German astronaut in Roscosmos mission are all safe.
The Russian media recently blamed the possibility of U.S. astronauts deliberately drilled the hole to get a sick colleague sent back home. Russian officials later denied those reports and announced that, a manufacturing defect.
Unlike ISS, Soyuz does not provide any slots to setting up a workstation, but they created a one for the same reason from which they could stabilize themselves and cut into a Soyuz spacecraft attached to the station.
