Rani Mukerji, who has amazed the audiences time and again with her acting in films including Veer-Zaara, Aiyya, Hichki, and more has carved a niche for herself in the film industry. Rani was also appreciated by all for her phenomenal performance in the 2014 release Mardaani, in which the actress was seen essaying the role of a daredevil cop, Shivani Shivaji Roy.
In the flick, she is seen taking on the kingpin of child-trafficking, that was played by Tahir Bhasin.
A while after Yash Raj Films confirmed a sequel to the 2014 release, the film is all set to go on floors today. The makers of the movie took to their social media account to share the photo of a clapperboard that denoted the beginning of the shoot for Mardaani 2. Captioned “To new beginnings”.

Talking about Rani’s role in the sequel, a report published by DNA in February stated that the actress will be reprising the same role of Shivani but now as the Superintendent of Police who battles a 21-year-old merciless villain.
DNA quoted a source close to the development as saying, “Rani is raring to go and it will be thrilling to see her back in action as Shivani Shivaji Roy. What adds to the curiosity is that this time, the villain is a 21-year old who knows no empathy. Their edge-of-the-seat showdown will have the audiences glued to their seats.”

Last year Rani confirmed her role in the film and was quoted in a statement as saying, “Mardaani is and will always remain close to my heart. Right since its release, everyone has asked me time and again when I would be doing Mardaani 2 and I am sure this announcement will come as a present surprise to them all. Gopi has written an extraordinary script, that we’ll all love and I can’t wait to Start shooting this film soon.”
Mardaani 2 will be helmed by newcomer Gopi Puthran and is slated to release in the second half of 2019.
