The All India Congress here on Wednesday appointed Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary for Uttar Pradesh East ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2019. She will take on the charge in the first week of February.
Jyotiraditya Scindia has been appointed as general secretary of Uttar Pradesh West.
K C Venugopal is given the important responsibility as AICC General Secretary (organization), succeeding Ashok Gehlot who is now Rajasthan Chief Minister. For now, Venugopal will also continue as in-charge of Karnataka.
“The responsibility given to Priyanka ji is very important. This will not only have an effect on eastern Uttar Pradesh but also other regions”, Senior Congress leader Motilal Vohra said.
Soon after the appointment, Gandhi’s husband Robert Vadra congratulated her in a Facebook post.
Ghulam Nabi Azad, hitherto in-charge of UP, has been repositioned as the AICC General Secretary in charge of Haryana. Shortly after the announcement, Congress tweeted “it’s fired up and ready to go”.
