Child abuse in theatre; SI and Mother to be charged with POSCO

In the incident of a minor girl abused at a theatre in Edappal, the SI who refused to register case against the accused will be booked under POCSO Act. It is known that Changaramkulam SI KG Baby will be booked under POCSO Act and also IPC 129 will be charged for the delay caused in registering the case and starting the investigation.

It might fetch him a punishment of maximum two-year jail term. At the same time Baby said that he had handed over the complaint he got to Tirur DySP. He alleged that DySP Biju Baskar who was in Delhi for training then didn’t take action even when he returned.

State Police Chief Loknath Behera said that no culprit will be allowed to escape. He also said it will be looked into whether any lapse occurred from the part of Tirur DySP.Mother of the child, who was also seen at the theatre, has been booked under POCSO Act. It is known that the abuse took place with the knowledge of the mother. While questioning she had tried to safeguard Moidheen, the accused in the case and denied all the allegations.

The minor girl has been shifted to Nirbhaya home. She was subjected to medical examination after which her statements were recorded in the presence of a Magistrate. Police will record the detailed statement of the child after a counselling.

Moindheenkutty was also taken for medical examination. Earlier it was said that he would be brought to the theatre for evidence collection and his statement will be recorded. But it didn’t happen. He will be produced at the Manjeri court at late Sunday.

It is alleged that when the issue came into light, police were trying to trap ChildLine for allegedly editing the CCTV footage. Police have made the theatre owner give a written statement that he had given the visuals to police.

However, women’s commission chairperson MC Josephine criticised police for neglecting the issue and keeping an anti-women attitude. She noted that police have committed a serious lapse to take action in the case.
