As Polar vortex getting stronger in Midwest US,more people lose their lives. As per the recent reports about 8 had died due to the extreme cold in US.
Hospitals have been treating patients reporting frostbite as life across a swathe of the nation grinds to a halt. More than 250 million Americans overall have affected the “polar vortex” conditions, but southern states such as Florida have escaped the brutal chill.
On Thursday, America’s third largest city of Chicago break its 1985 record low of -32C (-25F), according to meteorologists. The reports shows that now the freezing weather in Chicago is facing a lower temperature than the freezing on Mars.
“It’s going to be at least a 60-degree swing for Chicago,” David Hamrick, a National Weather Service forecaster, told Reuters news agency.
The Polar Vortex is a band of strong winds high in the atmosphere around the north pole that normally keeps bitterly cold air locked around the Arctic region.
The vortex has broken into two air masses, with one sitting over North America and the other over Europe and northern Asia.
The NASA graphic above shows how the vortex has been broken up by the warmer air in the Arctic region and forced it south.
Arctic weather is plunging into North America. 🌡️ The culprit is a familiar one: the polar vortex.
