Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at Latur in Maharashtra violated the model code of conduct, said Osmanabad District Election Officer (DEO) in his report filed to the state election officials on Thursday.
Modi had appealed first-time voters to “dedicate” their votes to the “brave soldiers” who carried out the Balakot air strike and to the “braves martyred” in the Pulwama terror attack, in his speech on Tuesday.
CPIM had filed a complaint with the Chief Election Commission.
It has to be seen if the EC will agree with the opinion of Osmanabad DEO. If it happens, Modi, for the first time, will be asked to explain his remarks. EC is likely to take a call this week.
The Commission On March 19 had written to all political parties to “desist” from bringing in the defence forces for any political propaganda.
