Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday surprised everyone present at Kumb Mela in Prayagraj,by washing and wiping the feet of the sanitation workers who are awarded “Swachh Kumbh Swachh Aabhaar”award.
PM was expected to pay respect to the safai karmacharis, but he took an unexpected turn by proceeding to wash and wipe clean the feet of awardees.
It was a real challenge to keep the Kumb Mela clean for those cleaning workers and thus the PM said,”Over 20,000 dustbins,1 lakh toilets…difficult to even imagine how much safai karmacharis have worked”.
Throughout the function the PM addressed the sanitation workers as “karmayogis”which means saints focused on work.
“These safai karamcharis were my brothers and sisters who were waking up early, sleeping late, all to ensure the cleanliness of the area. They did not want any praise but they were doing their jobs without any fuss”,he added.
The PM also took a dip at the triveni sangam in Prayagraj.
