Gujarat’s Patidar quota agitation leader Hardik Patel here on Tuesday joined Congress at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Ahmedabad.
Joining the grand old party in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls in presence of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Patel said that he’s taken the decision for the sake of the state’s interest and its 6 crore people.
After joining the Congress, Patel lauded Rahul Gandhi for his leadership defended the party over the “one-family party” jibe of PM Modi saying that “how it was nepotism if the family has risked the lives of their loved ones for the country.”
“To give shape to my intentions to serve society & country, I have decided to join Indian National Congress on 12th March in presence of Shri Rahul Gandhi & other senior leaders,” Patel tweeted on Sunday.

“I would also like to state that if there is no legal hindrance and party decides to field me in electoral politics, I would abide by the party’s decision. I am taking this step to serve 125 crore citizens of India,” he said in another tweet.

Hardik Patel made headlines through the groundbreaking Patidar reservation agitation in 2015. During the 2017 Gujarat Assembly polls, when Congress secured 77 seats out of the 182 seats, Patel had openly backed the party.
