A new study report that heavy drinking and high-fat diet results from the brain circuitry.
“Obesity and alcoholism, two of the most common chronic disorders in the United States, may be behaviourally linked as binge intake of palatable diets, such as diets high in fat,and binge alcohol intake may utilize the same neurocircuitory,”said the researchers.
A research conducted ion early adult male mice and then studied their drinking patterns. They were classified into three-groups ,high fat diet, normal diet and binge diet.
The ‘high-fat diet got access to high-fat-diet and drinking water mixed with alcohol for four hours, four days a week.
The normal diet category were provided with rodent diet and limited access to alcohol.
whereas, the ‘binge diet’ had limited access to both ‘high-fat-diet’ and ‘normal diet’.The researchers observed the changes in them over the course of eight weeks. The binge diet group showed weight gain and lose cycle associated with binge eating, the mice drank more alcohol than water and other two groups consumed less alcohol compared to binge diet group.
The results are however suggestive of a brain circuitry connection to the binge eating and drinking
