Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy on Thursday said that he never claimed that Rahul Gandhi’s candidature from Wayanad is confirmed.
Chandy was the first leader to announce that KPCC has invited Rahul to contest from the hill constituency. Soon after, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala also confirmed the news. KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran went a step ahead and said Rahul is interested to contest from Wayanad. It was reported as ‘confirmation’ on his candidature.
However, as the party leadership remain indecisive over the issue, Chandy clarified that it was only a request from the state leadership.
Chennithala denied the allegations of BJP that the Left parties pressurised Rahul to deny the invitation.
T Siddique, following the news on party president’s candidature, withdrew from the fray and stopped the campaign. Wayanad DCC and alliance partners have asked the Congress leadership to take the decision as soon as possible.
