Highlighting accomplishments and raising awareness on education, health, medical care, women rights and safety of girl children, the National Girl Child Day is celebrated in India on Jan 24 every year. The day was first initiated in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

This year, the National Girl Child Day coincides with the anniversary of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Scheme. ‘Empowering Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow’ is the theme for National Girl Child Day 2019.
The observance has the twin objectives of generating awareness on the issue of declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and creating a positive environment around valuing the girl child. The official observance is being organized by the Ministry of Women & Child Development along with observance the anniversary of BBBP Scheme. Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi will be the Chief Guest. Minister of State, Dr. Virendra Kumar will be the Guest of Honour of the event, informs the release.
