The PS Mission Hospital at Maradu in Kochi has operated on a wrong leg of a 15-year-old girl and a complaint has been lodged at the local police station against the hospital. The girl was admitted to the hospital yesterday for an infection on the right thigh. She was operated yesterday afternoon on the left leg instead of the infected right leg.
When the girl started showing signs of uneasiness by evening, her mother examined her leg and was shocked to see the wrong leg being operated. The surgery was done on the left leg and blood was oozing out from the thigh. When the relatives contacted the hospital authorities, none were able to give a satisfactory reply. The relatives immediately launched a police complaint.
The doctor, in an explanation given to the police, said her right leg was infected and hence surgery was done in that leg.
