Kerala Congress leader PJ Joseph took a firm stand on seat sharing in UDF for Lok Sabha polls here on Monday. He insisted two seats for his party and expressed willingness to contest in the polls.
“Kerala Congress need two seats in the polls. Along with Kottayam, we need either Chalakudy or Idukki. I have informed this matter to Rahul Gandhi,” said PJ Joseph.
He noted that earlier Kerala Congress occupied two seats. “In 1984, Kerala Congress had three seats and Muslim League contested in two seats. So there is no need to compare seats of Kerala Congress with League,” he added.
When he was asked to respond on his party’s candidate, he stated that he is ready to contest.
Meanwhile, he dismissed the rumours that Nisha Jose K Mani will contest from Kottayam as Kerala Congress candidate.
At the same time, Nisha Jose K Mani has also confirmed that she will not contest the elections.
“The party will hold discussions to select the candidates for the elections on Tuesday. We expect, the party will get two seats,” said Joseph. He also expressed hope that UDF will sweep to victory in all 20 constituencies in Kerala.
