Left Democratic Front workers on Thursday alleged that Facebook algorithm is biased and a post against the Congress party is hidden from certain users on the social media platform.
A DYFI activist Lalson Alocious on Thursday posted that rival UDF used his uncle’s photo without his permission for the election campaign. An election poster, appeared on UDF Kerala Facebook page on April 3, 2019, alleges that the Pinarayi Vijayan government’s ‘inefficiency’ in managing dams caused the massive floods in the state in 2018. However, the person who appeared in the political advertisement was told that the shooting was for a movie, alleges Lalson.
The issue about the viewability of Lalson’s post arose when several Facebook users said that the content is not available.
“Sorry, this content isn’t available at the moment. The link you followed may have expired, or the Page may only be visible to an audience that you aren’t in,” read a message box appeared while clicking the link to the post.
However, a screenshot of the post shows that the post’s privacy setting is ‘public’. The same post can be seen if the person logs out of Facebook.
Some people suspect the involvement of Congress’ ad agency, which is a ‘potential client’ of Facebook, behind this. They fear the agency used their influence to hide the post from a group of people.
Facebook officials and UDF Kerala Facebook page admins have not responded to the questions yet. This story will be updated as soon as we get a response.
