The Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar claimed he is innocent in the Saradha Chit scam during questioning in Shillong. Kumar was questioned by the CBI for over eight hours yesterday and former TMC MP Kunal Ghosh has also been told to appear at the CBI office for questioning today.
Rajeev Kumar, a 1989-batch IPS officer, was the head of the SIT before the Supreme Court transferred the case to the CBI.
The CBI also wants to know that of the 75 cases registered by May 2014 when the case was transferred to the CBI why did the SIT only take-up the Saradha case and why all others were left out.
A senior CBI official speaking on the condition of anonymity said that state police were first to enter the premises of Saradha Group after its collapse and there are allegations that important documents related to the case were removed so as to suppress the evidence. The first investigation team of CBI including six officers led by deputy superintendent Tathagata Bardhan initiated questioning on Saturday.
The acquisition against the cop includes the original primary and fundemental evidence of the documents has gone missing including laptops, mobile phones and other devices.
