Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has decided to extend the service to Angamaly in the third phase of the project. It is reported that the authority will make necessary changes in the draft plan of Angamaly route.
KMRL will make changes in the draft plan as per the metro policy 2017. It is learnt that the officials will conduct a study on traffic in this route. Scope of linking metro with Nedumbassery airport and establishing transport facilities, including a tram, will be studied in detail. The report of this feasibility study should be produced while seeking approval of the centre for a new metro route.
KMRL has invited tender in order to revise the draft plan and appoint consultant for the extension project.
The new metro route will get started in the stretch from Aluva to Angamaly. KMRL has prepared draft plan and traffic study report in 2010-11. Economic analysis and feasibility report on linking road and rail transport should be included in this draft plan. Expenditure for the project will change after revising the draft plan.
Initial works in Angamaly will start along with the second phase metro extension work at Kakkanad. Though KMRL has decided to extend metro to Nedumbassery in third phase, they moved out of the plan after finding that it would incur loss. Following this, KMRL decided to extend metro to Angamaly. It is learnt that large number of people are travelling from Angamaly to Kochi.
