Congress MLA Dr Umesh Jadhav here on Monday resigned his assembly membership, ending two months of dilly dallying.
Umesh Jadhav, a two time MLA from Chincholi constituency in Kalaburagi district, met speaker K R Ramesh Kumar and handed over his resignation letter. He is expected to join BJP in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kalaburagi, where the PM will address a rally on March 6.
The BJP is likely to field Jadhav against a Congress party leader from Kalaburagi Lok Sabha seat. He is expected to give a tough fight considering the strong presence of Lambani community in the constituency to which he belongs.
Jadhav had decided to leave Congress two months back. He was also identified with the Congress rebel group, headed by Ram Jarakiholi, which threatened to topple the government during the budget session.
The Congress had already moved a disqualification petition before the speaker against four rebels including Jadhav when they refused to attend the Congress legislature party meeting despite a notice.
