Muslim League candidates for the Lok Sabha elections held discussions with office bearers of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) on Thursday. The latter is a controversial organisation after its members being accused in several criminal cases with a communal angle.
IUML leaders P K Kunhalikutty and E T Muhammed Basheer and SDPI leaders Nasarudheen Elamaram and Abdul Majeed Faizi are seen walking into a room in a KTDC hotel at Kondotty.
However, both parties denied any ‘secret agenda’ behind the meeting.
The LDF has already trained its guns at UDF and League. CPIM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that League is using “communal card” to win the elections.
SDPI has announced its candidates for six constituencies including Ponnani. In 2014, SDPI candidates secured 47000 and 26000 votes in Malappuram and Ponnani constituencies respectively.
Former Congress leader and CPIM independent P V Anwar’s candidature is expected to give a tight fight for the UDF.
