The BJP on Thursday published the criminal record of the Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha constituency candidate K Surendran.
A total of 240 criminal cases are charged against him.The candidate himself revealed it in the four-page advertisement in BJP mouthpice ‘Janmabhoomi’.
Most of the cases were registered against him related to Sabarimala protest. Highest number of cases are registered against him in Kollam district were he is booked under 68 cases,56 in Alappuzha and 38 cases in pathanamthitta and Kasaragod.Idukki-17,Ernakulam-13,Kottayam-8,Thiruvananthapuram-3 and kozhikode-2.The northern districts such as malappuram,Wayanad and kannur recorded one case each against him.
The Election Commission of India recently, made it mandatory to announce the criminal antecedents to float advertisements thrice in print and electronic media so that voters get to know all the details prior to election.
Surendran also announced that he has to spent at least ₹60 lakh for the publication of the criminal records.As per the rule of the election commission,a candidate is allowed to spent only up to 75 lakh for the election campaign.Thus if we look now Surendran has only 15 lakh for election campaign.
