US lawmakers decided to remove the per country limit on green cards,a cap that disadvantages immigrants from populous countries such as India and China.
The legislation, when presented in the senate backed by Kamala Harris and US tech companies such as Microsoft and IBM,for whom it will become easier to hire Indian tech workers.
The current law limits green cards to 140,000 annually. Thus it was annually confined to 9,800 people more than one country green cards. The huge backlog of the applicants from India and China thus got rejected.
The proposed bill has already caused talks among prospective immigrants from other countries,as they see it as a favour for India, which sends highest number of skilled guest workers on H-1B visas to the US.
The USCIS records shows that over 3,00,000 Indians got backlogged by the rules.
Whereas,American Hospitals Association also opposed the bill, because it would slow down permanent residency of immigrants from countries such as Philippines and Sri Lanka which send a large number of nurses to US.
