In yet another move aiming at the welfare of tribespeople, the Kerala government’s employment department has decided to launch an exclusive platform for job seekers among scheduled tribes. The first of such rural employment exchange, along with a career guidance centre, is all set to come up at Peringamala panchayat of Vamanapuram constituency in Thiruvananthapuram district. It will start functioning in August 2018.
The panchayat has donated 10 cents of land near Palode KSRTC depot for the infrastructure development of the project. Peringamala, being one of the most populated tribal belts of Kerala, hopes to build a better future with increased access to public employment platforms.
Commenting on the new venture, Vamanapuram MLA D K Murali told Onmanorama that the state government had been chalking out plans for extending the tribal people a greater access to public employment platforms for a long time. “Our small village is going to spearhead a major progress in the country’s public employment sector,” he said.
As an office under Nedumangad employment exchange, the Perigamala employment exchange will cover Vithura, Peringamala, Nandiyodu and Pangod panchayats. It will start functioning in a rented space from August 2018. “There is a wide gap between skilled tribal youth and public employment sector in our state. We intend to begin the enrollment and career guidance sessions at the exchange as soon as we get the final order. Public works department will construct a new building for the same in the allocated land to which the system will shift in course of time,” Murali added.
Peringamala tribal career guidance center will be the fifth career guidance center under state employment development department. It aims at organising around 200 sessions per annum in order to attract more tribal youths to public employment platforms. The exchange will begin its activities with a group of officials deployed from the employment development department until new posts are allocated for the project.
