The state Election Commission has decided to remove more than 20 huge hoardings of the self-proclaimed protectors of Sabarimala temple, the ‘Sabarimala Karma Samithi’.
Eight of the 24 PVC flex boards, installed across the state aiming at seeking votes for BJP covertly, are now being removed by the EC, reports Malayala Manorama.
The Samithi claims that the hoardings were approved by the EC and the police is removing it.
The Karma Samithi, a shadow organisation of Sangh Parivar, has been campaigning online and offline for BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. Since the ruling party has restrictions on using Lord Ayyappa to seek votes, they hope to overcome this through the Karma Samithi.
This strategy has been used widely before as well. In north India, BJP reaps the ‘electoral fruit’ of the communal violence unleashed by fringe elements including the so-called ‘cow protection groups’.
