With many parts in Kollam reporting water shortage, the local bodies urged the government officers to ensure supply of drinking water to areas facing water scarcity. Yet no measures have been taken to supply water to this area. The government has sought permission for pipeline to MSL, said the Panchayat and Water Authority.

These upside-down ‘canyons’ exactly has a depth of 20 feet that flows from the MSL road. People living in these old colonies has to climb down the pavements twice a day. Climbing down to pull up water out of the pits poses danger to their lives.
Around 60 families live here. The locals came up with complaints and suggested precautionary steps that should be taken into account during the harsh summer.

Keeping the scorching sun in mind, water preservation measures should be intensified along with identifying new sources and recharging wells. Limiting water consumption to the minimum and avoiding water wastage should also be done to tackle the situation.
