To fulfil the US-Mexico border wall construction,US President Donald Trump on Friday announced a national emergency.
Even though he failed in senate to pass the bill on wall construction, his new move will force the opposing congress members to rethink.
Bypassing Congress, which approved far less money for his proposed wall than he had sought, Trump said he would use executive action to siphon billions of dollars from federal military construction and counterdrug efforts for the wall, aides said.
The money in the bill for border barriers, about $1.4 billion, is far below the USD 5.7 billion Trump insisted he needed and would finance just a quarter of the more than 322 kilometres he wanted this year.Trump is planning to fetch the rest of the money through other means. He announced that he will be spending roughly USD 8 billion on border barriers combining the money approved by Congress with funding he plans to re purpose through executive actions, including the national emergency. Some military projects will be get affected, if he go forward with the current plan to construct the wall at any cost.
Trump made the announcement from the Rose Garden, as he claimed illegal immigration was “an invasion of our country.”
On the Democrats saying they will challenge the move in the Supreme Court, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said, “We’re very prepared, but there shouldn’t be [legal challenges]. The president’s doing his job. The Congress should do theirs.”
Trump described it in a rhythmic tone, showing the the ups and downs of his decision that he has to face in the coming days and the final victory.
“Sadly, we’ll be sued and sadly it will go through a process and happily we’ll win, I think,” he said.
House Speaker Nancy Peloski and Senate Ministry eader Chunk Schumer, called it an “unlawful declaration over a crisis that does not exist”.
They emphasised that it”does great violence to our Constitution and makes America less safe, stealing from urgently needed defense funds for the security of our military and our nation. ”
Although, the national emergency declaration came, Trump still lacks billions of dollars short of his overall funding needed to build the wall as he promised in 2016.
