Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Monday suspended the actor-turned-politician Radha Ravi from the party following his distasteful comments on Pollachi rape incident and actor Nayanthara.
DMK general secretary K Anpazhakan, in a press release, said that Ravi has been suspended from the party membership and also removed from all responsibilities.
Ravi had made comments about the actress’ roles of a ‘ghost’ and ‘Sita’ in different films at the trailer launch of ‘Kolaiyuthir Kaalam’ starring Nayanthara in the lead role.
“They can cast someone as a goddess who you want to pray to when you look at them, they can also cast someone you want to call towards you when you see them,” Ravi had said.
The actress was not present at the event.
He also commented about the Pollachi rape case. The incident can be a “big budget” movie as it has 40 victims unlike the small budget movies which have only one rape victim, he told the audience.
A video of his speech was widely shared on social media drew sharp criticism.
Many deemed his comments insensitive and misogynistic.
