The Delhi-Noida Direct (DND) flyway has been shut on Saturday for second consecutive day as thousands of farmers from different villages of Gautam Budh Nagar district marched towards Delhi, raising slogans and causing severe disruption of traffic causing inconvenience to commuters.
The agitated farmers have alleged that builders, who took land from farmers, have laid the foundation stone for a degree college, but construction is yet to begin.
The protesters want that those farmers who did not sell their land to builders should be provided a channel for passage of water for irrigation purposes. They also want immediate relief from the Income Tax department.
The farmers have demanded that the affected families should be either provided employment or give Rs 5 lakh as compensation for self-employment. Furthermore, they have demanded creation of 100 bighas of land for Gram Sabha.
Earlier in the day, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme was announced by Finance Minister Piyush Goyal. As per the scheme, the Rs 6,000 would be disbursed in three installments and would be transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts.
“This initiative will benefit 12 crore small and marginal farmers, at an estimated cost of Rs 75,000 crore, this will enable farmers to earn a respectable living,” Goyal had said.
Apart from this sum, another Rs 20,000 crore has been set aside in the revised estimates for the current year 2018-19.
Goyal had said all farmers will get Kisan Credit Cards. For the welfare of farmers and for doubling their income, Goyal said, “a historic decision was taken to increase MSP by 1.5 times the production cost for all 22 crops”.
Later, dismissing all naysayers, Goyal had said, “Those sitting in AC rooms cannot understand the plight of the small farmers. Keeping this in mind, we have introduced Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. This is a historic decision.”
There could be diversions made on the route as per requirement, the Noida Traffic Police said in a statement. “People are advised to use alternate roads via NH-9 for movement between Noida and Delhi to avoid inconvenience,” it said in an advisory.
