Congress party on Thursday alleged a security breach in its party president’s programme in his Lok Sabha constituency Amethi. In a complaint filed to Home Minister Rajnath Singh, party leaders said that a green colour laser, possibly from a sniper gun, flashed on his head when he was meeting the press.
“A perusal of the video by various persons including former security personnel leads to a prima facie conclusion that this laser could emanate from a potential weapon such as a sniper gun,” the letter said.
Senior Congress leaders Ahmed Patel, Jairam Ramesh and Randeep Singh Surjewala also shared a video clip to prove the arguments. The laser was seen “intermittently on at least 7 separate occasions in a short period,” they said in the letter.
The incident happened when he was interacting with media after submitting the nomination to Amethi.
They expressed their “shock” and “distress” at the possibility of Rahul being “targeted by a potential assassin.”
