Kerala state leaders of Congress and BJP are in Delhi to finalise their candidate list for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Though the LDF declared their candidates a week ago, the grand old party and the saffron party are still in troubled waters due to group fight and clashes with alliance partners.
Though Kerala Congress officially has only one seat, disgruntled P J Joseph is giving a headache to the front by demanding a ticket for himself. Ruling out the news reports suggesting Congress forgoing Idukki- in which, some leaders wish to field Oommen Chandy- Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala told media persons that Congress gave no such words to anyone.
UDF has declared its candidates in three seats- Ponnani, Malappuram and Kottayam- in which the IUML and KC(M) are contesting. Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode and Kannur seats of Congress are settled. However, all other seats require more deliberations to ‘balance’ the cate and religious equations.
Though Kummanam Rajasekharan has almost confirmed his candidature in Thiruvananthapuram, seats for state president P S Sreedharan Pillai, state general secretary K Surendran and other leaders are yet to finalise. In none of the seats, including Thiruvananthapuram, BJP has a vote share to secure a win. The finalisation is more about distributing the seats for the groups.
Since Congress has declared that it will publish the list tomorrow, BJP is also trying their best to seal the deal by Saturday or Sunday. Both parties require the ‘help’ of national leadership in this.
