The Chief Election Commissioner Teeka Ram Meena said that the collector’s action was right,regaridng filing a notice against the Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency candidate Suresh Gopi. The CEO said that the Suresh Gopi violated the moral code of conduct in the prima facie.
“You can raise the Sabarumala issue.But,you should not use the name of god.It is a violation of MCC if one uses God’s name”Teeka Ram Meena why a particular party is trying to grab votes in the name of God.
“Instead of raising the issue of women entry,they are using the god.Speeches which will destroy the religious unity will not be allowed.God is for everyone and not someone’s monopoly.God is not an icon to drag votes in the election by promoting the narrow thinking,”he added.
Suresh Gopi,the BJP candidate of Thrissur,during an election rally in there said that he is seeking votes because of the Sabarimala issue and said “If Ayyappa is an emotion, its waves will reach the entire nation and not just get confined within the state”.Following the controversial statement district collector and chief electoral officer TV Anupama issued a notice to suresh Gopi for violating the Model Code of Conduct and seeking votes in the name of lord Ayyappa.
