Kerala Sahitya Akademi award winner Malayalam writer Santhosh Echikkanam who was arrested for alleged casteist remarks under several sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act on Saturday as granted bail by the Kasargod District Court the same day.
According to an Indian Express report, as per the bail condition, he has to appear before the investigating officer every Saturday.
The complaint was filed by Chamakochiyil Balakrishnan alleging the writer has lowered his and his family’s dignity in public during a book festival held in Kozhikode on February 9, 2018.
Balakrishnan filed the complaint after the event was telecast on a channel and uploaded on the YouTube.
Santhosh had moved the High Court seeking anticipatory bail. But the court asked him to appear before the investigating officer.
