President Ram Nath Kovind’s speech on opening day of the Budget session on Thursday highlighted,Modi governments achievements,GST,counter-terrorism,demonetisation and surgical strikes.
The president also talked about making a ‘new India’ and the new schemes for socio-economic development by NDA period.President called demonetisation as the ‘defining moment’of the nation and gave emphasis on the steps taken by the government to catch black money.
According to the president,Rafael deal was an important step to enhance the potential and strike capability of Indian Air force.
“My government believes that neglecting the country’s defence needs even for a moment is detrimental to the present as well as the future of the country.The new agreements relating to the defence sector signed last year,purchase of the new defence equipment and indigenous production within the country under the ‘Make in India’ project have helped boosting the morale of the defence forces and increasing the country’s military self-reliance.”President said while addressing the Budget session in Parliament.
Among the social welfare schemes president mentioned Ujjwala,rural electrification,universal health insurance coverage,cleanliness drive,skill development and housing for all.He also mentioned under Swatch Bharath scheme more than 9 crore toilets have been constructedwhich resulted in total sanitation of rural areas by 98% this year,which was only 48 percent in the year 2014.
Moreover, the president denoted the central government initiatives to empower women by bringing legislation against triple talaq,tightening the rules for rape,and more employment opportunities for women,especially in Armed forces and security.
