Three workers belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were arrested Monday in connection with the politically motivated murder of Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPM) worker Kannipoyil Babu at Pallur here. Jerin Suresh, P K Nijesh and P K Sarath were arrested after they, along with 12 other BJP supporters, were taken into custody for questioning from Nadavayal area in Pallur on Sunday.
The police had already founded that a six-member gang was involved in the murder of the CPM worker at Mahe. The political double murder that took the lives of two people in Mahe and nearby New Mahe, along the border of the union territory and Kannur in Kerala is being investigated by the Kerala and Puducherry police forces.
CPM leader Babu Kannippoyil, a former councillor in the Mahe municipality, was hacked to death in Mahe on May 7. Babu, aged 45, was ambushed near the Koyyodan Koroth Temple at Palloor around 9:15 pm while he was going home on his motorcycle.He was rushed to a hospital in Thalassery but the hacks on his head, neck and stomach proved fatal.
