The Kerala faction of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday zeroed in on actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi to fight from the Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency for NDA.
The party captured the seat from its ally BDJS when Thushar Vellappally decided to shift to Wayanad following the announcement of the candidature of Congress president Rahul Gandhi from the hill-constituency.
Ticket aspirants including senior leader M T Ramesh have refused to contest from Thrissur, reports TV channels. Earlier, BJP state general secretary K Surendran had shown interest in the constituency. But the national leadership insisted Thushar to contest from the ‘cultural capital’ of Kerala and sent Surendran to Pathanamthitta.
In the sitting seat, LDF has fielded CPI’s Rajaji Mathew Thomas against UDF’s T N Prathapan.
