The Kerala unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday called for a hartal in the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday in protest against the police roughing up a few of their workers which took place outside Secretariat on Monday morning.
The Hartal will be in place from 6 AM to 6 PM on Tuesday.
Extending support to AN Radhakrishnan who is on hunger strike, 400 to 500 BJP and Yuva Morcha workers led a protest outside the Secretariate against the Pinarayi Vijayan led LDF government’s handling of the Sabarimala temple women’s entry issue.
When the protesters tried to enter the Secretariat, it turned violent and protesters were dispersed by the police using tear gas and water guns.
The Kerala state assembly was also adjourned today after the opposition protested against the imposition of Section 144 in Sabarimala following a string of protests.
Recently, the Pathanamthitta district administration, under which the jurisdiction of the hill shrine falls, extended the prohibitory orders, Section 144 under the Criminal Procedure Code till December 12 midnight.
According to the district administration’s call, areas of Sabarimala, Elavungal, Nilakkal, Sannidhanam (sanctum sanctorum) and Pamba will be under constant vigilance by the police till Wednesday.
