Following the death of Ayyappa devotee in Trivandrum, the BJP unit in Kerala has called for a state wide hartal on Friday.
The dawn to dusk hartal has been called prompted by the death of 55-year-old Venugopalan Nair, who set himself on fire at the BJP protest venue in Thiruvananthapuram where Kerala BJP leader CK Padmanabhan has been on a fast demanding the withdrawal of the state government’s alleged ‘anti-devotee’ approach in Sabarimala. Venugopalan, who is a native of Muttada, died at the Government Medical College around 3.45 pm on Thursday.
The party has said that all Sabarimala devotees will be exempted from the dawn-to-dusk hartal and that it would be a peaceful hartal. The hartal will be in place from 6 am to 6 pm.
Following the hartal announcement, the Kerala University, Mahatma Gandhi University, and Science and Technology University have decided to postpone all the exams which are scheduled to be held on Friday. New dates will be announced soon.
All exams for school students from classes 1 – 10 have been postponed to the 21. All higher secondary exams too have been postponed. New dates for these exams will be announced soon.
