BJP’s Kozhikode Lok Sabha constituency candidate Prakash Babu was remanded by the Ranni First Class Magistrate court for allegedly attempting to murder a devotee at Sabarimala.
The news came as a shock as well as a treat for BJP which is looking to gain ground in the election campaign after taking a longer time than usual to finalise their candidates. BJP and Congress are using Sabarimala issue for polls despite the warning from the election commission.
Babu is accused number 16 in the case charged with conspiracy in an attempt to commit culpable homicide (sec 308), use of criminal force to outrage the modesty of a woman (sec 354) and unlawful assembly at Sabarimala. BJP state general secretary K Surendran who said Sabarimala is the biggest issue in the elections had also spent three weeks in jail on the same case.
BJP hopes to cash in on Babu’s arrest and maintain Sabarimala a live issue during the elections.
