Union Minister Smriti Irani, who hit headlines for alleged fake degrees declared that she has not completed graduation. In the latest election affidavit, she declared her educational qualification as: “Bachelor of Commerce (Part 1), Three-year degree course, not completed.”

In 2004 when she contested to Delhi Vidhan Soudha, the declaration read: BA, 1996, Delhi University (School of Correspondence).” However, the latest incomplete B Com is in 1994.
In 2014, in the affidavit filed for Lok Sabha elections, she said she has ‘Bachelor of Commerce Part-1, School of Open Learning (Correspondence), University of Delhi, 1994’.
Smriti, the then Human Resource Development Minister, at India Today Woman Summit, 2014, claimed that she has “a degree from Yale [University, New Haven, USA] as well.”
She later clarified that it was a training programme at Yale and not a degree certificate. “Unfortunate that statement re my participation in a leadership program & certificate thereafter was misconstrued.”

The metropolitan magistrate in 2016 had dismissed complained filed against the mismatchings in the affidavits. The court, however, dismissed the pleas saying it was filed to harass her.
