The Supreme Court here on Friday ordered mediation in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title case. A Constitution bench of SC headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi gave the Ayodhya case order appointing Justice Khaliifulah (Retd), Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and senior advocate Sriram Panchu as mediators in the Ayodhya Ram temple land title dispute.

The SC bench, consisting of Justice S A Bobde, Justice D Y Chandrachud, Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice S Abdul Nazeer had, while hearing the Ayodhya title dispute matter on March 6, had reserved its judgment for Friday.

The matter pertains to mediation in the disputed title in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case. In its order in 2010, the apex court had ruled that the 2.77-acre land is divided into three equal parts between the Nirmohi Akhada, Ram Lalla Virajman and the Sunni Waqf Board.

While the Muslim side consisting of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) had agreed for mediation.

The Hindu side led by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Hindu Mahasabha has been arguing that mediation has historically failed in the Ram Mandir case.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Subramanian Swamy said that temple will have to be built on the said land.
